April 9, 1975 — September 8, 2025

Grand Forks

Philip “Moose” McCullough-Martsolf, 50, passed away on September 8, 2025, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, North Dakota, after a long battle with kidney disease and six months in hospice care.

He was born on April 9, 1975, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a child, Moose loved professional wrestling and making home videos with family and friends. He cherished summers spent at the family cottage in Bay View, Michigan, where many of his happiest childhood memories were made. A devoted sports fan, he cheered passionately for the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Twins. He was also fascinated by weather, often keeping a close eye on forecasts and tracking storms and tornadoes.

Moose had a gift for forming deep and lasting connections, including many close friendships online that meant the world to him. Known for his sweet, goofy spirit and enormous heart, he brought joy to those around him despite living with severe anxiety and depression. His faith was a source of strength and comfort, and he found peace in the hope of being reunited with loved ones in heaven.

He is survived by his parents, John and Cathy Martsolf; and his sisters and their families, Kathryn Masterson and her husband Chris, with children Quinn and Aidan; Carol Martsolf and her partner Keith, with daughter Catherine and her husband Lee, and their daughter Reese; Jessica Kula, with son Evan-Gray.

He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Margaret Jean McCullough; his grandparents, John and Jean Martsolf, and Carl and Loretta Young; and his aunt and uncle, Nancy and Ric Martsolf.

A memorial service will be held next summer in Bay View, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial trees may be ordered through the online tree store on the Amundson Funeral Home website.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
