R. Clifford “Cliff” Busch

R. Clifford “Cliff” Busch, 84, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona.

Cliff was born on January 4, 1942, in Grafton, North Dakota, to Robert and Dorothy Busch. He grew up in Manvel, North Dakota, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1960. After high school, he attended Valley City State University, where he played basketball, and earned a degree in education from the University of North Dakota. In Grand Forks, he met Sandra, and they married on October 19, 1963, sharing 62 years together.

Cliff was a devoted husband, caring father, and loving grandfather. His family was at the heart of his life, and he took great pride in his sons, Ryan, and Clifton; daughter, Christen (Nels) Dokken; and granddaughters, Elsa, and Inga.

Cliff spent much of his career in education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Montana and Minnesota. He found great joy in his work, and his children enjoyed having their dad at school with them.

Cliff loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in northern Minnesota. He and Sandra enjoyed retirement by traveling together and spending time at the lake. In Arizona, he enjoyed playing pool with friends at Sunland Village, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Busch, and brothers, Gene and Rodney Busch, and Rodney and Ordean Lembke

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Ryan, and Clifton; daughter, Christen (Nels) Dokken; granddaughters, Elsa, and Inga; brothers, Craig (Sue) Busch, and Dennis Lembke; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cliff will be remembered for his caring heart, outgoing personality, love for the outdoors, and lifelong friendships. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m.
