Randy D. Rood, age 66, of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at his home.

Randy Douglas Rood was born April 29, 1959, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to James and Marilyn (McIntrye) Rood. He was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from Red River High School in 1978, and spent 1 year at the University of North Dakota on a track scholarship. Randy worked at Home of Economy and later went on to dedicate many years at Altru Hospital. Randy was united in marriage to Barbara (Hjelmstad) and together they were blessed with two sons, raising their family in Grand Forks.

Randy was a man who found joy in the simple moments of life; his favorite place to spend time was in nature and at his family’s cabin on Island Lake in Minnesota, where he would go fishing; he also could be found taking care of his garden and tending to his yard.

Randy is survived by his sons, Brandon Rood of Grand Forks, ND, and Tyler Rood of New York, NY; grandchildren, Bodhi and Banx Rood; siblings, Julie (Rick) Bouchard, Renée (Corey) Johnston, James (Terryl) Rood, Michael (Nadine) Rood, and Robert (Tami) Rood; and former wife, Barbara Rood; and many nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marilyn, and his infant sister, Kristen.
