Rebecca D. Brooks, 72, Mayville, ND and formerly of Buxton, ND, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Luther Memorial Home of Mayville.

Rebecca Dawn Brooks, ”Becky” was born on March 21, 1950 in Fargo to Howard and Amy Knudsvig.  She attended school and grew up in Buxton.   She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran in Buxton.  She was active in band and participated in track and the trampoline.  She attended the International Music Camp and was selected as a member of their band which toured several countries in Europe and the US.

After graduating from high school in 1968 she attended Montana State University.  She moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland in June 1969, where she attended and worked at Potomac Riding Academy.  She married Joe Brooks in Norfolk, Virginia in 1970.  They traveled with the Royal Lipizzan Stallions for several years and worked at riding schools in Iowa and Ohio.  She moved back to Buxton and worked at Knudsvig Hardware until 1986, when she started working at NOKOTA Packers until her retirement.  In 2017 she moved to the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND where she passed away on Feb. 12.

Becky was always about horses.  She owned “Magic Tally” for many years and riding and caring for him was her favorite thing to do in life.  Along with her friends at the Buxton Apartments, Tally, her dog Chewie and many barn cats were her best friends.  Becky was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she served on the Buxton Park Board for several years. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  She is survived by her brother, Craig (Renae); sister, Lorrry (David) Upgren; 4 nephews and 2 nieces. 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 17, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Buxton.  Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Immanuel East Cemetery, Buxton, ND in the spring.
