Richard “Dick” O. Monson, 95, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks.

Richard was born August 21, 1927, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Martin & Laura (Omoth) Monson.  He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks.

He entered the US Army during World War II and served until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Richard married Shirley J. Gunderson on June 4, 1964, at First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks.

He owned and operated an auto mechanic shop and auto finishing business.

Richard enjoyed his time at the lake with Shirley, family and friends while fishing and snowmobiling.  

He is survived by his children, Curt (Cindy) Monson, Terry (Tony) Silvestrin and Guy (Roxanne) Monson; nieces, Diane (Doug) Remer, Janet (Randy) Severson and Michelle (Chris) Potter; nephews, Roger (Gail) Crane, Kevin (Jackie) Crane and Michael Gunderson along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his 2 brothers.   

Funeral Service: Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN, with visitation the hour prior to the funeral. 

Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
