Robert John Middagh passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, peacefully and with loved ones in his home in Grand Forks, ND.
Robert and his twin sister Roberta were born in Miles City, Montana, on June 30th, 1951, to Gerald and Ruth (White) Middagh. Robert lived at the Grafton State School from 1958 to 1985. While there, he attended educational classes and was employed in a variety of jobs including janitorial, delivery, and food service to name a few. In the summer of ’85, he moved to Grand Forks where he was supported by Development Homes for the next 40 years. In that time, he developed close bonds with staff and peers who remained friends long after his time with them. Shortly after moving to Grand Forks he began attending University Lutheran Church, where he met Pastor Tom and attended there for many years. He was active in his community working and attending activities at LISTEN DROP In, Community Options, and Grand Forks Growth and Support Center, formerly known as Agazzi. In 2020, Robert moved to Valley Senior Living for more supportive care and called this his home until his passing.
Robert was one of 10 children. Gilbert Patrick, Dollie Marie, Peggy Jean, Virginia Kathy, Richard James, William Charles, Rebecca Mae, Danny Allan, and his twin Roberta June. Robert was close to Roberta and enjoyed celebrating their birthdays together at Culver’s or Pizza Ranch along with their many friends from the community. Robert loved his friends and would ask about them and talk about them often. After he moved to Valley Senior Living, he began making daily visits to the offices of some of his favorite VSL staff. He received great care at Valley, was loved by many people there and returned that love in spades. He loved coffee, his TV games shows, playing bingo, and fresh tomatoes from the garden. He would do anything for Michael and Andrea (Andra to Robert) and loved them like family.
Robert is survived by his close friends who he considered family, Michael and Andrea; siblings, Dollie (Norlan) Hagerott, Peggy (George) Confer, Kathy (Willard) Dathe, Rebecca (Roger) Simones, Richard Middagh, William Middagh and Danny Middagh, numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gilbert Middagh and twin sister, Roberta Middagh.
