Robert “Monty” Montgomery, 66, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Robert George Montgomery was born July 15, 1957 in Grand Forks, the son of James and Joyce (Roen) Montgomery. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Red River High School in 1975.  During his high school years and for a time after, he worked for his father at Montgomery Airspray. He also worked for Simonson Gas Station Stores and at the The Sportsman Headquarters in Grand Forks. In 1979, Monty became the co-owner of The Ski Shop which later became The Ski and Bike Shop. He worked for 44 years with his partner and friend Terry Knudson before retiring in November 2020.

Monty enjoyed bowling, golfing with friends and attending drag races at Brainerd, MN. He was always dedicated to helping other people.

Monty married Nancy Greenwood on May 9, 2015 at their home in Grand Forks, but had spent 19 years together before getting married.  She survives along with their daughter Ashley (Eric) Stauss and grandchildren Kaden, Ryer, and Emery of East Grand Forks and his siblings, Sandy (Brad) Gerszewski, Grand Forks, and Sue (Bob) Martinez, Chandler, AZ and extended families and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Joyce Montgomery and his fraternal and paternal grandparents.

A memorial reception will be Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 PM at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
