Robert C. Staveteig, 98, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, of Grand Forks, ND, died Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Edgewood Vista in Grand Forks.
Robert Colon Staveteig, the son of Ole and Mabel (Stundahl) Staveteig, was born on November 23, 1925 at the family farm near Thompson, North Dakota.
He attended school at Walle #77 and graduated from Central High School in 1943. Robert worked for Ingolf Johnson for a short time before he was drafted into military service, serving 13 months in the Army during World War II, primarily in Okinawa. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he attended Ag School in Grand Forks and began farming with his family. He married MaryAnn Arlene Meyers on June 23, 1948 in Grand Forks. During the winter of 1953, they went to California where he worked for Douglas Aircraft. He later returned home to farm. They lived at Rural Thompson, North Dakota and he farmed with Staveteig Bros. Farm until 1986, and farmed on his own after that.
Robert was a President of Walle #77 School Board, a member of the VFW and American Legion Clubs in East Grand Forks, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed time at the lake, fishing, word search and computers.
Robert is survived by his six daughters, Sandra Frick, Portland, ME, Cheryl (Jeff) Nelson, Edgewood, NM, Patricia (Les) Roos, Grand Forks, Diane (Mike) Walker, Eagle, Idaho, Mary (Patrick) Lunak, Grand Forks and Bobbie (Mitch) Ostrom, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Jeff (Agnieszka) Frick, Traci (Michael) Leslie, Todd (Shaye) Frick, Casey (Kristin) Frick, Angie (Rob) Moran, Eric (Amy) Woodbeck, Brianna (Gary) Hester, Jason (Sara) Roos, Kelly Roos, Stephanie Walker, Matt (Jessie) Walker, Robb (Emily) Lunak, Joshua (Maria) Lunak, Zachary (Jordan) Lunak, Tanner Ostrom, Dillan Ostrom and Karlie (Wade) Clark; 33 great grandchildren; a sister, Deloris Landerville; sister-in-law, Betty Staveteig; Extended family, Barbara, Brian, Wendy, Wade and Brenda Peterson
He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn Arlene, parents, a daughter, Pamela; grandson, Aaron Woodbeck; son-in-law, Tom Frick, siblings, Ervin (Ruth) Staveteig, Lloyd (Beulah) Staveteig Lorraine (Byron) Amundson, George Staveteig; brothers and sister-in-laws, Tannis Sanden and Leo Landerville. Lila (Joe) Loun, Beverly (Jim) Adams and Laverne (Ed) Von Rueden. Extended family: Clayton Peterson.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m, with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks.
Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery in the Spring. For those unable to attend, you can join the United Lutheran Church Livestream on Facebook.
