Rodney A. Pierson, affectionately known as "Whitey," was born on July 29, 1954, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He peacefully passed away on November 12, 2025, in Reynolds, North Dakota, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family.
Whitey was a farmer through and through, deeply connected to the land he worked for numerous farms, including Helland Farms, Burbidge Farms, Crystal Sugar, E & R Farms, and Sondreal Farms. His commitment to agriculture was matched only by his passion for life and the joy he found in working with the earth. He attended school in Fordville, ND, where he likely cultivated his strong work ethic that would follow him throughout his life.
Baptized and confirmed at Elk Valley Lutheran Church in McCanna, ND, Whitey’s faith and values grounded him as he navigated life's challenges. On August 29, 1981, he married Debra Gerszewski, with whom he shared a life filled with love and companionship. Together, they raised a son, Richard, who became a source of pride for Whitey. He was also a devoted grandfather to Corey Pierson, cherishing the moments spent making memories.
In addition to his commitment to farming and family, Whitey found joy in hobbies that allowed him to engage with the community and indulge his interests. He enjoyed attending toy shows and flea markets, where he connected with friends and fellow enthusiasts. He loved playing cards and took great pleasure in his beloved '57 Chevy, which spoke to his longstanding interest in classic automobiles.
Whitey was a member of the Sons of Legionnaires, reflecting his appreciation for service and community, although he never served in the military himself. His spirit of camaraderie was felt by all who knew him, as he had a knack for making friends wherever he went.
Whitey is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Pierson; son, Richard Pierson; grandson, Corey Pierson; siblings: Roger Pierson, Karen Schlenvoght, Kristi McFarland and Kay Ann (Pat) Rarick; and several nieces and nephews. He is deeply mourned by his family and friends, who will remember him fondly for his generous spirit and dedication to those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Pierson; mother, Helen Gohdes; brothers, Roy and Reynard Pierson; sister-in-law, Sandra “Sam” Pierson; nephew, Jeff Pierson. The loss of these family members left a void in Whitey’s life, yet their memories remain treasured.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on November 22, 2025, at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND. The visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00PM. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
