Scott James Bigwood 66, of Grafton passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at his home.
He was born on May 23, 1959, in Grand Forks to James and Donalda (Dickson) Bigwood of St. Thomas, ND.
He attended St. Thomas Public School, graduating in 1977. He was raised by loving parents where he worked alongside his Dad in the family farm operation, until he chose to further his education. He attended The University of North Dakota where he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1996 graduating with honors. He used his degree working at the Developmental Center in Grafton and at Valley Memorial in Grand Forks, which he enjoyed visiting with the residents and hearing their life stories. While at UND he took part in a summer program trip to Costa Rica working on a professor’s farm operation and then exploring and traveling across the country. Later he changed careers and worked at Marvin Windows then drove for Transystems LLC - a job he enjoyed until his retirement.
Scott loved to travel, taking rides on his Harley motorcycle enjoying the outdoors and his many adventures with friends across ND and MN, MT, AK and Canada. He visited Montana, loved its beauty and made the move to Missoula, Montana and started a lawn care business, where he enjoyed many great memories and enjoyable times with incredible friends! He also accompanied his Mom on adventures to The Panama Canel, a cruise to Alaska and Costa Rica. Scott enjoyed being outside working around his yard and in his beautiful garden. He had a green thumb, planting and harvesting his garden with care- especially roasting and freezing his green chilies from New Mexico. His impressive garden was known in Grafton which he shared with family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his sister Susan (Susie) Bigwood of St. Thomas with whom he shared a loving, close relationship, he always looked out for her, his special friend Joyce Baker of Grand Forks, Uncle George (Carol) Dickson of Sioux Falls, SD, Aunt Betty Wolfgram of Grand Forks, with whom he had a special bond, along with numerous cousins and lifelong good friends.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and grandparents and his four-legged friend Marty who was his best friend!
Scott will truly be remembered for his sense of humor, quick sarcasm, his infectious laugh, always willing to have a conversation especially about his Harley or his garden and sharing his life experiences. He will be deeply, deeply missed by his family and those who knew him.
We are honoring Scott’s request as he did not wish to have a funeral. A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
