Scott Wahlstrand

October 2, 1949 — October 4, 2025

Grand Forks

Scott E. Wahlstrand, 76, Grand Forks, died Saturday, October 4, 2025 in an automobile-train accident near Grand Forks.

Scott Eugene Wahlstrand, the son of Clifford and Lorraine (Schneider) Wahlstrand, was born in Grand Forks on October 2, 1949. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School in 1967. Scott served in the US Navy from December, 1968 until September 1972, spending much of that time on the Midway off the coast of Vietnam. Upon discharge from the military he attended UND. He received a scholarship which included an extended trip to Europe with his future wife, Marcia Cariveau, which they would often reminisce about for the duration of their 51 years of marriage. Scott married Marcia on July 13, 1974 in Grand Forks. Following their marriage they lived in Le Sueur, MN, where he was employed by Green Giant. They then moved to Fargo, ND, where he was employed by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and finally returned to Grand Forks where he was employed by Brady-Martz, and later by Bradoc, until he retired in 2012.

Scott regularly attended church on Sundays, lectoring and distributing communion at St Mary's church for many years. He was a regular and passionate donor for St Jude's. He delivered Meals on Wheels for many years with Marcia.

Scott was a music lover, especially enjoying The Beatles, classic rock, jazz, and blues. He was proud to have been the bassist for “The Other Culture Band” in his youth and often reminisced about his days in the band. Scott had a quiet appreciation for nature, taking photographs while out camping and fishing with his family, or just when relaxing in the backyard. He loved working with tools and woodworking, making furniture, and making frames to display his photographs. Scott excelled at languages and loved to read. He was big a fan of UND sports, the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins, and often could be found wearing a jersey on game days with an IPA in his hand. He was a devoted, loving father who will be remembered for his contagious smile, silly sense of humor, easy-going humble spirit, and his faith. He will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia, Grand Forks; sons, Ben, Grand Forks, and Nick, Little Falls, MN; siblings, Patricia Martinson, Phoenix, AZ, Kris (Tom) Novetske, Eden Prairie, MN, and Tim Wahlstrand, Needles, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Julie.
