Shirley Louise Meagher, 77 of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on October 18, 1947, the daughter of Edward and Edna (Vandal) Goulet in Langdon, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Walhalla, North Dakota. Shirley’s family eventually moved to Grand Forks and she met the love of her life, Albert Meagher. They were married on March 7, 1972, in Grand Forks. They built their home in rural Grand Forks, where they raised their family.
Shirley spent much of her time caring for her family. She received her CNA certification from Northland Technical College. Over the years, Shirley worked at St. Ann’s Guest House, Associated Potato Growers and Home Place Thrift Store. She also volunteered at the Altru Hospital and the Salvation Army. Shirley was the secretary for Big Al’s Construction from 2004 until the time of her passing.
Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her daily thrift store stops, visiting, cooking, baking, canning and having dinner at Grama Butterwick’s and the Roadhouse Café. She also loved her weekly trip to the casino with Albert.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Albert Meagher, daughters, Sheila (John) Akset and Kelly Wesolowski; son James (Michelle) Meagher all of Grand Forks, ND; five grandchildren, Brittany, Kassi, Brooke(Nick), Kelsey and Bridget; nine great grandchildren, Rolando, Vanessa, Aaliyah, Bryleigh, Bryson, Bennett, Avianna, Khleesi and Angel; brother, James (Darlene) Goulet of Grand Forks, ND; sister, Phyllis Lafferty of Walhalla, ND; brother-in-law, Lloyd Martin of Grand Forks, ND; sisters-in-law, Joyce Goulet of Grand Forks, ND and Ida Poitra of Belcourt, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Darlene Sanbeck, Orris Goulet, Lorraine Poitra, Lawrence Goulet, Robert Goulet, Barbara Fox and Esther Martin.
She will be missed dearly by all.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Amundson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
