Sonia D. Spaeth

Sonia Diane Spaeth, age 77, resident of Grand Forks, ND, died on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her home.

Sonia Diane Spaeth, daughter of Kenneth Spaeth and Esther Simonson Spaeth. Who was born on February 23, 1948, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Sonia attended Winship Elementary, Valley Junior High, and graduated in 1966 from Central High School. She went on to get her BS Degree in HPEP and Art. She graduated in the Class of 1970 from Mayville State University. She received her Master Degree in Education at the University of North Dakota.

Sonia taught 5 years at Nevada High School in Battle Mountain, Nevada. She taught Art, Health and Physical Education. Sonia created the girls’ sports programs and coached the Drill Team.

In 1975, Sonia became an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, teaching Art, Health, and Physical Education. In the early years of her teaching, she coached women’s volleyball, softball, and track. She enjoyed creating the Art Program which introduced the art of design, pottery, drawing, painting, and art history to many.

Preceded in death by her mother, Esther and brother Kim.

She is survived by father, Kenneth Spaeth; sister, Claudia Spaeth, Claudia's husband, Curtis Rice and their family;sister-in-Law, Corrine Klein Spaeth, wife of Kim, and family; sister, Holly Spaeth Terrell, her husband, Rick Terrell and family

A family led celebration of Sonie’s Life will be held on September 16, 2025 from 2:00PM – 5:00PM at Valley Golf Events Room.
