Susan Eisenzimmer, age 75, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Wednesday, June 11, 2025, after battling Progressive Supranuclear Palsy surrounded by her family at home.
Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2025, followed by a Rosary and Prayer service at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Visitation will continue 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Susan Margaret Amundson was born November 15, 1949, in Williston, North Dakota, to Chester and Delores (Snildahl) Amundson. Susan graduated from Tioga High School in 1967; following graduation, she continued her education at Minot State College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1971. Susan began her teaching career at the North Dakota School for the Deaf from 1971 until 1985. After moving to Grand Forks, she accepted a position at the Area Special Education Cooperative. During that time, she earned her Master of Arts Degree from Gallaudet University in 1993. She retired from ASEC in 2011. Following her retirement, she transitioned to substitute teaching in the Grand Forks Public School District and later concluded her career at the University of North Dakota, where she taught American Sign Language from 2013-2015.
On September 25, 1971, Susan was united in marriage to Jacob “Jack” Eisenzimmer at the St. Thomas Catholic Church. Together, they raised their family in Grand Forks and were foster parents from 1980 until 1985 and eventually continued in 1996 until 1999. Susan and Jack enjoyed traveling together, taking cruises with their family and friends, and spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona. In simpler times, Susan enjoyed reading, playing pinochle, and being with her family.
Susan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jack Eisenzimmer of Grand Forks, ND; daughters, Michele (Tom) Karel of Grand Forks, ND, Alicia (Ryan) Olmstead of Lakeville, MN, and Rebecca (Kyle) Schneider of Grand Forks, ND and Abby Eisenzimmer of Grand Forks, ND; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Delores Amundson; son, Loren Eisenzimmer; and brother, John Amundson.
