Susan C. Simons, Grand Forks, passed away on June 12, 2025 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia Road.
Susan Rudrud was born on August 6, 1934 to Ralph and Mabel Rudrud in Hillsboro, ND.
Susan graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1952 and moved to Grand Forks where she attended UND. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Simons. They were married on October 15, 1955 in Hillsboro, ND and began their life together in Bismarck, ND.
In 1963, Susan and her family moved to Grand Forks. She participated in a women’s bowling league at Red Ray Lanes and even recruited some neighbor ladies to join her so they could have enough for a “team”. In the mid 1980’s Susan went back to school and obtained her Health Unit Coordinator Certificate from AVTI, (now Northland Community College) in East Grand Forks, MN. She spent many years working at the Grand Forks Clinic in the medical records department until her retirement in 1996.
Susan also spent many years volunteering for the March of Dimes in the 1970’s and 1980’s and volunteered at United Lutheran Church. She served on the HOA board when she resided on Dakotah View Ct. in Grand Forks.
Susan liked playing bridge, riding her bike, going to the lake, sunbathing, coffee, Hershey’s chocolate and visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
Susan is survived by her two sons, Robert (Lynette) Simons, Grand Forks, and Jeff Simons, Phoenix, AZ; brother, Merlin Rudrud, Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Bob; her brother, Ralph (Dutch) Rudrud and his wife Carol Rudrud; sister-in-law, Bev Rudrud, Bismarck, ND
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Memorial for their excellent and compassionate care of Susan, and Dr. Gomez, Susan’s doctor for many years.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025 at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
The family prefers that memorials be designated to the March of Dimes or the Circle of Friends Humane Society.
