Thelmer Jore, 94 of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at SMP Health-St. Catherine South, Fargo, North Dakota.
Thelmer was born in Union, North Dakota on June 17, 1931, the son of Gilbert and Netta (Anderson) Jore. Thelmer met Belle Ohls in Fort Worth, Texas while stationed at Carswell Air Force Base. They were married on October 3, 1951, and they enjoyed 72 years together. Thelmer enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1949 and was stationed in numerous locations around the United States and the world including Texas, Maine, Oklahoma, Grand Forks, Viet Nam, Thailand, along with shorter tours in Africa, Guam, Philippians and many others.
He retired in 1978 and enrolled at UND where he graduated with honors. After graduation he worked with the Corp of Engineers and then in Civil Engineering at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Thelmer retired from civil service in 1994 and began retirement with Belle. They traveled around the country visiting friends and family and wintering in Texas. Thelmer enjoyed golfing with his family and friends. Taking Belle to many casinos, visiting his children and many projects he completed around the house.
Thelmer is survived by his children, Jeanie (Dennis) McDowell of Detroit (Clinton Township) Mi, William (Terri) Jore of West Fargo, ND and Kenneth (Jill) Jore of Grand Forks, ND; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Belle, seven brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Sharon Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
