Veronica J. Thoreson

Veronica Thoreson, 90, Grand Forks, N.D., died January 11, 2026, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Veronica Schwan was born April 23, 1935, in Devils Lake, N.D., to Peter and Johanna (Axtman) Schwan. She grew up on a farm northeast of Devils Lake. She graduated from high school in Devils Lake and attended Mayville State Teacher’s College. She taught for one year outside of Webster, N.D.

On June 25, 1955, she married Dale Thoreson in Verdun, France. They lived in France for nearly two years. In 1957, they moved to Stephen, Minn., where he taught. In 1961, they moved to Crookston, Minn., where he taught high school, and she became a homemaker.

In 1967, they purchased Owen’s Floral in Grand Forks and moved there. They also owned and operated Four Seasons Floral, Baseview Floral, and Veronica’s Hallmark there.

They spent summers at their cabin on Cass Lake, Minn. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

The burden of grief falls upon her husband of 70 years. She is also survived by a daughter, Diana Thoreson, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son, Rodney, of Grand Forks, N.D.; a granddaughter, Justina (Brandon Ward) Thoreson, of Goodyear, Ariz.; a step-grandson, Casey Kress, of Tooele, UT; three great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Fletcher, of Castle Rock, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Schwan, of Devils Lake, N.D., along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Thoreson; a sister, Elsie Kennedy; and two brothers, Raymond and Martin Schwan.

The Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Amundson Funeral Home with Fr. Bill Gerlach to officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

Interment will be at Memorial Park North  Cemetery, Grand Forks, N.D., in the spring.
