Virginia A. Wilson, age 87, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Wednesday, July 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at her home.
Virginia Ann Wilson, formerly of Minto, North Dakota, was born June 23, 1938, and daughter of Maurice and Sophie (Reszka) Korynta in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Virginia married Merle Wilson on September 11, 1956, at St. Patrick’s Church in Minto, North Dakota.
Virginia spent her life serving her family and the church. As a “domestic engineer” she enjoyed preparing and hosting family meals, baking caramel rolls, and gardening. As a member of St. Mary’s Church since 1956, Virginia served the parish as a liturgist, sacristan, volunteer “church lady,” funeral committee member, and was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Virginia was a pillar of strength and a true woman of faith.
Virginia is survived by her children Greg (Lori) Wilson of Sedona, AZ; Jeffrey (Carrie) Wilson, Janell (Dennis) Johnson, and Joanne Wilson all of Grand Forks, ND; Colleen Wilson (daughter-in-law) Gilbert, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren with 27 and 28 expected this winter; siblings Daniel (Connie) Korynta, Ernie (Roxanne) Korynta of Grand Forks, ND; Lenore (Ron) Houdek of Tolna, ND; and Jean Johnson of Tacoma, WA; as well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Wilson; son, Randall Wilson; brother-in-law, Don Johnson; sister-in-law, Barbara Korynta; and her parents.
The family of Virginia would like to extend a special thank you to the medical team at the Altru Cancer Center, especially Dr. Abdul Hannan, Kayla Clausen NP, and Annie Berginski, and Dr. Josh Deere and his Altru staff. The family is grateful for the compassionate care Virginia received. Also, God bless all who have supported Virginia and family with your prayers.
To honor the request of Virginia, all memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Sanctuary Restoration Project (216 Belmont Road, Grand Forks, ND 58201) or Sacred Heart School (200 3rd Street NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721).
Visitation will be held 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks. Rosary and Prayer Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
