Cody N. Holte

March 17, 1991 — May 27, 2020

On Wednesday, May 27th Cody Holte, loving husband and father tragically died in service to his community at the age of 29 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Cody was born on March 17, 1991 in Fargo, ND to Bret and Tracy (Redland) Holte. During Cody’s junior year of high school he attended the Connecticut State Police Youth Week where he discovered his passion for leading, serving and protecting. He graduated from Norman County West High School in 2010. After high school Cody attended basic training in Fort Jackson South Carolina and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he became a Military Engineer in the North Dakota National Guard. He attended Minnesota State University Moorhead and received a degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Sociology and Military Science in 2015. Cody was an active member of the Army ROTC for three years during college and then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Cody was currently serving in the North Dakota Army National Guard as a First Lieutenant. His units were out of Jamestown, the 817th Combat Engineers, and presently Lisbon with the 815th Construction Engineers. Cody was also a part of the ND rappel team. He began his career with the Grand Forks Police department in 2017. Additionally, he was a member of the Water Rescue team. Cody wore around his neck a medallion on which the verse Phillipians 4:13 was engraved…”I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”. We are grateful God gave Cody the strength and courage to serve and protect, leading him to give the ultimate sacrifice; his life, in the line of duty.

Cody put God, family and country above all other things. On August 27, 2016, Cody married the love of his life, Amanda Christian. Together they loved to travel, spend time with family and friends, and the simple pleasure of one another’s company. They were blessed with the birth of Gunnar July of 2019. Cody loved being a dad…snuggling and kissing Gunnar’s cheeks were two of his favorite things to do. They were already running together before Gunnar could even walk, but Cody could hardly wait to pass on to Gunnar the things his dad had taught him.

Cody lived each day by the saying, “Don’t let yesterday use up today”. Always the first to offer a helping hand, his kind heart and outgoing personality left an imprint on all he touched. His smile preceded him. Cracking a joke with his quick wit were part of his daily life. He loved sports as both a player and a spectator; go Duke Blue Devils! He annually hunted in Western North Dakota with Grandpa Pete, his dad, brother and friends, a special event he never missed. He cherished family time at the lake including Gunnar’s first boat ride. With the Holte’s, every event was a family one; there was no I or me, it was always “us”. That value carried with Cody as he entered his life as a husband and father.

Cody is survived by his wife Amanda, son Gunnar, parents Bret and Tracy (Redland) Holte, sister Alexis Schmidt, twin brother Brady (Dani) Holte, nephews Ames and Henry, grandparents Nathan and Kerry Redland, great grandmother Ardyce Holte, father and mother-in-law Tim and Sandy Christian, brother-in-law Matt Christian, grandmothers Shirley Christian and Carole Eide, many aunts, uncles and cousins, all of his brothers and sisters in blue, ROTC, and United States Army.

Cody was preceded in death by his Grandparents Peter & Susan Holte, Roy Christian and Allen Eide.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota at 1:00 p.m. visitation prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
