Eunice K. Burwell, 90, of Grand Forks, ND, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton.

Eunice was born on February 13, 1932 in Reynolds, North Dakota to Willie and Edith (Hanson) Ellingson.  She was raised and received her education in Reynolds.  In 1954, Eunice married James Burwell in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  The couple began their family in Grand Forks, where she stayed at home caring for her children. 

She later attended Aaker’s Business College where she earned an Associates Degree.  She then began working as a receptionist at the Crosby Hospital.  Also in Crosby, she worked as a bartender at various locations.  Following a move back to Grand Forks, Eunice began volunteering at the Immanuel Lutheran Church daycare where she enjoyed reading and spending time with the children who called her “Grandma.”

Eunice was an avid reader and also enjoyed puzzles, puzzle-books and crosswords.

Eunice is survived by: her daughters, Dawn Stewart of Monticello, MN, Cheryle (Todd) Benedict of Hope, ND; sons, Jim Burwell of Grand Forks, Todd (Char) of Northwood; brothers, Odney Ellingson of Grand Forks, Curtis Ellingson of East Grand Forks, MN; a sister Lois Nordean of Duluth, MN; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; a daughter, Debbie, a grandson, Gabrielle; 2 brothers, Roger and Ernie Ellingson.
