Justin M Mondor

April 15, 1985 — January 19, 2024

Justin M. Mondor, age 38, lifelong resident of Grand Forks, died suddenly on Friday, January 19, 2024. Justin Micheal Mondor was born to Micheal Tyson and Renae Mondor on April 15,1985, in Grand Forks, ND. Justin spent much of his early childhood years trucking with his grandfather, traveling between Grand Forks, and Des Moines, IA. As he grew older, he travelled all over the U.S with his grandfather and uncle, Jay. Justin attended Central High School in Grand Forks, graduating with the class of 2004. He went on to attend UND and coached with the GFC Wrestling staff for one year before becoming the head coach at Valley Middle School. Justin coached wrestling at Valley for 15 seasons while also continuing to coach at GFC when time allowed. He was an excellent recruiter and an even better coach. His dedication to Valley wrestling was instrumental in GFC having a strong program the last two decades. Outside of wrestling, Justin was busy working many jobs, including Shangri-la, Hugo’s, Grand Forks Herald, and in the contracting business with his uncle. He had football coaching stints at both GFC (2006-2012) and Valley MS (2004-2005, 2013-19). He also spent several years as a paraprofessional at Valley MS, where he had a positive impact on many students. Justin spent six summers doing landscaping, worked in the remodeling business, and many people got to know him from his nights bartending at the Ramada Inn, Judy’s Tavern, and the Broken Drum. Most recently, Justin had worked as an electrician, before accepting a job with the city of Grand Forks in the Public Works Water Department. Justin was engaged to Brianne Thompson, his partner of 15 years, and together they share one child, Lincoln (17 months old). Justin was so proud to be a father and loved Lincoln more than he ever thought was possible, and he was the best dad. He enjoyed singing country music to Lincoln, taking him out for breakfast on Saturday mornings, and sneaking him sips of fountain pop and other treats when mom was not looking. Family was the most important thing to Justin. Justin also had a love for dogs, especially for Toby (2012-2022), the family’s beloved Golden Retriever. Justin enjoyed socializing with the many people he would run into out in the community. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and went above and beyond for his family, friends, and community. Justin is survived by his fiancé, Brianne Thompson of Grand Forks, ND; son, Lincoln Mondor; siblings: Mark R. Mondor of Grand Forks, ND; Brittney (Brad) McClellan of Lanexa, VA; and Mary (Cody) Snow of Jamestown, ND; Uncle; Joseph “Jay” (Terrie) Mondor of Grand Forks, ND; Aunt Laurie Olson of Grand Forks, ND; step-grandmother; Jeanne Mondor of Grand Forks, ND, step-uncle and aunts; Dan (Coiya) Inman, Jennifer (Keith) Risberg, and Shelly (Paul) Radke, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with Brianne’s immediate and extended family.
