Vivien E. Rude

Vivien E. Rude, age 97, passed peacefully from this life into God’s loving arms on August 5, 2019, at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks. She was born in Devils Lake, ND on December 30, 1921 to Alma (Sagen) and Leonard Christen. Vivien graduated from Devils Lake High School and from Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks.

On October 4, 1947, she married Earl C. Rude and made her life-long home in Grand Forks. They raised a loving family of three children; Steve, Sandi, and JoEllen. JoEllen passed away in 1973, a source of profound loss for her. Earl passed away of illness in 2003, and Vivien continued to provide care and assistance to several people in her life for many years thereafter.

Vivien was proud of being a career woman, having worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses and most notably at UND for 23 years as the office manager for Food Services. During her tenure there, she received an award for meritorious service and was proud to receive accolades from President Clifford upon her retirement at age 65. Vivien was a strong, independent and determined woman, who served as a role model and steady source of support for her family.

Vivien’s strong faith sustained her throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in service to others. Her church community provided her with a wonderful source of support and hope.

She will be deeply missed and remembered by her children, Steve (Barbara) Rude of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Sandi (Doug) Marshall of Grand Forks, and her grandchildren Casey (Krissy) Rude, Jamey Rude, Michael Rude, and Andrea (Eric) Noble Stuen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, daughter, JoEllen, and siblings Stanley, Wallace, Lila, Dolly, and Jayne.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m to 10:30 a.m Saturday in the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.  Memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, Grand Forks.
